Green hydrogen is expected to generate approximately 300,000 direct jobs by 2030, representing 10% of Morocco’s employment needs, Morocco’s Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, said on Tuesday in Marrakech.
Speaking at the opening of the Fourth World Power-to-X Summit, Sekkouri noted that “the development of green hydrogen and renewable energy is a crucial lever for the national economy.” He highlighted that green hydrogen not only has the potential for direct job creation but also presents significant opportunities for indirect and induced employment.
The minister noted the crucial role of investors in this process, explaining that “investments are essential to achieving these job creation targets.”
The Moroccan government is “fully committed to supporting this initiative, including making one million hectares of land available for projects in this area,” he stated, adding that strategic partnerships with private stakeholders will also be encouraged to maximize the impact of these investments.
Sekkouri also mentioned a new roadmap that will be included in the upcoming finance law, which will introduce specific measures to promote employment in green hydrogen. These measures will encompass tax incentives, direct subsidies, and initiatives to foster innovation and research in this area.
“Adapting training programs is also a priority to ensure a skilled workforce,” he noted. “Three high-level specialized training institutes are already operational in Oujda, Ouarzazate, and Tangier to train technicians and engineers in renewable energy, particularly in solar, wind, and energy efficiency.”
The Minister reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to positioning itself as a key player in the global energy transition, attracting investments, and developing a skilled workforce to support the growth of green hydrogen and renewable energies.
