Another European country backed Morocco this week as Croatia reaffirmed its commitment to the EU-Morocco “strategic partnership” on Monday in the wake of the recent ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) invalidating the agriculture and fisheries agreement.
The CJEU’s ruling annulling the agreements stems from its 2021 ruling in favor of the Polisario Front which had claimed that the deal had been concluded without the consent of the Sahrawi people.
While Croatia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic stated that it has taken note of the rulings of the CJEU, it said “Croatia remains committed to the continuation of the strategic partnership between two sides in all mutually agreed areas.”
The country “welcomes” continued friendly relations with Morocco, and “remains dedicated to further improvement of bilateral and multilateral exchange” with the Kingdom, according to the statement.
Croatia is the latest addition to the growing list of European Union member nations that have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong ties with Morocco, including France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Finland, and Portugal.
