As Morocco looks to become a key player in the green hydrogen industry, several Moroccan public institutions signed four agreements with private sector companies on Tuesday during the Global Green Hydrogen Summit, held in Marrakesh.
The deals focus on implementing innovative solutions for the production, transportation, and storage of green hydrogen.
Morocco’s Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) inked the first agreement with Spain’s Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI).
It is designed to bolster technological collaboration between Moroccan and Spanish entities to advance green technologies. CDTI, a public body under Spain’s Ministry of Science and Innovation, is dedicated to promoting innovation and technological development across industries.
IRESEN signed another memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the “Tweed Cluster” group, which should enhance energy storage innovations and increase green hydrogen production for Moroccan industries.
A third agreement between IRESEN and “Mohring Energie Maroc” focuses on technical collaboration in research and development.
Under the final agreement between Morocco’s Green Hydrogen Cluster (Green H2 Cluster) and advisory firms Fidaroc Grant Thornton and UGGC Africa Law Firm, plan to create a multi-disciplinary platform to support the country’s growing green hydrogen ecosystem.
The agreements are part of Morocco’s broader effort to position itself as a global leader in renewable energy. The country already boasts impressive solar and wind energy projects, and green hydrogen is seen as a key next step in its sustainable energy strategy.
