French motorcyclist Frederic Baudry died following a crash during the Rally of Morocco, event organizers confirmed on Monday in a social media post.
Baudry, 46, was competing in the race for the second time when he suffered a fatal accident in the dunes near Zagora.
Baudry was quickly attended to by medical personnel who arrived via helicopter. Despite being transported to Zagora Hospital for further treatment, he dies of his injuries.
Baudry’s team, Nomade Racing, expressed their grief over his death. “Our most sincere thoughts are with his wife and children,” the team shared on Facebook.
The Rally of Morocco is known for its challenging terrain, and participants from around the world compete each year in preparation for the Dakar Rally, one of the most grueling off-road races in the world.
