Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) and the central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), signed two agreements on Monday in Rabat for the authorization for the use of technical features of the electronic national identity card (CNIE) and on-site security for cash convoys, according to Morocco’s News Agency (MAP).
These agreements align with the provisions of Law No. 04-20, which pertains to the electronic national identity card, and Law No. 40-17 regarding the status of Bank Al-Maghrib.
The first agreement, named “Memorandum of Understanding for Authorizing BAM to Utilize the Technical Features of the CNIE,” will enhance identity verification mechanisms, streamline procedures, digitize services, and combat identity fraud.
The agreement will enable BAM to access the services of the national trusted third party developed by the DGSN, allowing the bank to verify users’ identities and automatically read their identity data from their CNIE—with their consent—either at BAM’s premises or remotely through its online services.
The second agreement, entitled “Partnership Agreement in the Area of Site Security and Cash Convoys,” formalizes the existing collaboration between DGSN and BAM regarding the security of the bank’s facilities and the escorting of cash and valuable convoys.
It also seeks to enhance this cooperation by periodically organizing awareness actions and simulation exercises.
