Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch arrived in Paris on Friday to represent King Mohammed VI at the 19th Francophonie Summit held at the International City of the French Language in Villers-Cotterêts, according to Morocco’s News Agency (MAP).
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Akhannouch upon his arrival at the Château de Villers-Cotterêts, along with Brigitte Macron and Secretary General of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo.
This year’s summit is under the theme “Create, Innovate, and Build,” providing young creators and entrepreneurs with a platform to showcase their creativity through various events that celebrate the French language.
Moroccans are taking part in the summit through various expositions at the Moroccan pavilion.
“Morocco plays an essential role in promoting the French language and Francophone culture in Africa,” Oria K. Vande Weghe, Spokesperson for IOF, Secretary-General, said in a press meeting leading up to the event.
Since first joining the OIF in 1981, Morocco has established itself as a “key player” through its participation in the organization’s various bodies, she added.
