Morocco will distribute reconstruction aid to facilitate post-flood rehabilitation in the southern and southeastern regions of the kingdom, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
King Mohammed VI had called for action to address the unprecedented damage caused by heavy rains in several provinces, with the government allocating a total budget of MAD 2.5 billion to the Natural Disaster Relief Fund.
The aid will provide MAD 80,000 for the 852 partially damaged houses and MAD 140,000 for the 269 destroyed houses, following royal instructions.
The program will allocate resources to restore vital infrastructure, including roads, telecommunications networks, electricity and water supply systems, as well as sanitation facilities. It will also support agricultural activities and assist livestock farmers, to restore local economies in flood-affected regions.
The recent floods in Morocco, which struck provinces including Errachidia, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, and others, claimed numerous lives and left thousands displaced, with homes, infrastructure, and agricultural land ravaged.
The government mobilized a wide array of resources to address the crisis, according to a statement from the office of the head of government.
