The duration of emergency aid payments amounting to MAD 2,500 MAD for families whose homes were partially or completely destroyed by the September 8 earthquake that struck several regions in Morocco will be extended by another five months.
Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said on Wednesday during the 12th meeting of the inter-ministerial commission responsible for the reconstruction and rehabilitation program that the extension will help families complete the rehabilitation of their homes.
Akhannouch noted that this extension comes after the first 12-month emergency aid disbursement period has concluded. The goal is to ensure that families can finish rehabilitating their homes under the best possible conditions.
The Head of Government urged families receiving aid for damaged homes to accelerate their construction efforts, noting that the implementation of the reconstruction and rehabilitation program is “progressing positively.”
A strong 7-magnitude quake hit central Morocco on September 8 at 11.11 p.m. The official death toll of the earthquake stood at 2,946, with 5,674 injured, according to the Interior Ministry.
