Abdellatif Hammouchi, the Director of Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST) met with Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the British Defense Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa on Wednesday to discuss security cooperation between the two countries, DGSN said in a press release.
Hammouchi and Ahlgren discussed ways to enhance the bilateral collaboration particularly to advance explosives detection technologies.
They also addressed the potential risks associated with illegal immigration networks as they relate to different forms of transnational crime.
Ahlgren commended Morocco’s security agencies for their significant contributions to enhancing regional and global security. He recognized the country’s contributions to resolving many global security issues.
Hammouchi reaffirmed the kingdom’s strong commitment to deepening its security partnership with the British authorities, to ensure the safety and interests of both nations.
Both officials agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation to address significant security challenges, as both countries plan to host major sporting and security events in the future.
Morocco’s Marrakech will host the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in 2025. The Kingdom will also co-host the FIFA World Cup in 2030 and the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025. The UK plans to host the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Championship in 2028.
The UK’s Ambassador to Morocco Simon Martin along with senior officials from both countries attended the meeting.
