Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy applauded Morocco’s migration management in a recent interview with French channel CNews on Monday.
Sarkozy attributed Morocco’s success to the exceptional leadership of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, noting that the country has become a “model” for handling migration challenges.
The former president compared the situation in Morocco with Algeria’s, noting that “France issues thousands of visas to Algerians each year but receives very few consular passes for deportations.”
He also warned of an impending worsening of Europe’s migration crisis, urging that immediate action is required.
Sarkozy suggested an Africa-Europe summit to discuss economic development as a way to mitigate migration flows before they reach critical levels.
He further stated that the key to handling migration is “addressing the issue at its source by fostering economic growth in African nations.”
Sarkozy also called for migration-related administrative cases to be processed before migrants attempt to cross the Mediterranean which would help prevent further loss of life and streamline the migration process for both Africa and Europe.
