Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT) held the first session of a High-Level Strategic Dialogue on Thursday in New York, according to an official statement.
Convened on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the meeting reflects Morocco’s ongoing commitment to supporting multilateral counter-terrorism initiatives led by the UN, the statement said.
As part of this effort, Morocco is working to strengthen its cooperation with the UN, particularly in the fight against terrorism in Africa. “It thus strengthens the Kingdom’s position as a key player in promoting peace and regional security on the continent,” the statement noted.
Co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and UNOCT Under-Secretary-General Vladimir Voronkov, the meeting was a “significant step in deepening the strategic partnership between the two sides,” especially in supporting African countries in their efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
Bourita commended UNOCT’s ongoing efforts to assist African Member States in their fight against such threats. He also reaffirmed Morocco’s strong commitment to “promoting strategic and multilateral cooperation, in accordance with the principles and resolutions of the United Nations,” the statement concluded.
