Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication signed a partnership agreement with the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra Regional League of Electronic Games on Friday in Rabat to promote the development of electronic gaming and leverage its potential, Morocco News Agency (MAP) reported.
At a press briefing following the signing, Bensaid highlighted the ministry’s plans to invest in the gaming sector, citing its substantial international market potential.
“Our goal is to integrate Moroccan companies and youth into the global market through various initiatives, including the creation of the first gaming city in Rabat with a second to follow in Casablanca,” Bensaid said.
The minister highlighted the growing interest in gaming and eSports among Moroccan youth, who rank second in the Arab region as consumers of electronic games.
He recognized the value of furnishing youth centers with eSports resources, noting that “the advancement of gaming-related skills, such as game design and play, offers young people a source of entertainment while also fostering the growth of this industry nationwide.”
Omar Khyari, President of the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra Regional League of Electronic Games, stated that the partnership is designed to enhance the organization of competitions across cities, leading to the establishment of a regional gaming championship.
“The collaboration allows for the potential expansion of the League to include new sports associations, thus promoting eSports among young people,” he stated.
Spearheaded by the Royal Moroccan Federation, the Regional League recently hosted its inaugural gaming summer camp, benefiting 112 children, including participants from Africa, who participated in workshops tailored to introduce them to the gaming industry and foster new talent.
