The High Commission for Planning (HCP) and United Nations Development System (UNDS) agencies in Morocco have mobilized around 100 migrants and refugees to assist in collecting data for the 7th General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH).
This collaboration aims to capture migration dynamics across the Kingdom, with these community members building trust and facilitating communication between HCP investigators and migrant and refugee populations.
This approach ensures comprehensive and accurate data collection, including foreign nationals, in line with the royal letter to the Head of Government, according to the joint statement, MAP reported.
Mohamed Mghari, HCP Regional Director for Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Migration focal point, emphasized that this inclusive participation improves the quality and reliability of migration data.
To prepare the participants, a training session was held in July across six cities, involving 102 migrants and refugees, including 29 women, to help them serve as community liaisons.
The collected data will support evidence-based policymaking for socio-economic development, particularly benefiting migrant and refugee communities in Morocco.
Nathalie Fustier, UN Resident Coordinator in Morocco, highlighted that this inclusion of migrants and refugees in the census shows Morocco’s commitment to prioritizing migration.
This initiative is a step forward in understanding migration dynamics in Morocco and enhancing cooperation between HCP and UN agencies in the region.
