Thirteen years after its establishment, the National Foundation of Museums (NFM) has become a key player in Morocco’s cultural development. It aims to drive economic growth while preserving Morocco’s heritage, under King Mohammed VI’s vision.
NFM focuses on restoring and modernizing museums, safeguarding exceptional artifacts that showcase Morocco’s rich cultural history, according to Vogue Arabia.
These museums also promote cultural exchange by exhibiting both local and international works.
With 18 museums now open, the NFM has established its presence in cities like Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, and Meknes.
The Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) in Rabat, inaugurated in 2014, stands as the foundation of Morocco’s cultural landscape.
Marking its 10th anniversary this year, MMVI was the first Moroccan museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art.
It remains internationally recognized for meeting high museological standards and blending environmental responsibility by using solar energy.
The museum has hosted exhibitions from world-renowned artists like Giacometti, Picasso, and Monet, as well as prominent Moroccan figures such as Ahmed Cherkaoui and Chaïbia Talal. It also promotes African art with exhibitions like “Africa in Capital” and “Stronger Together.”
