Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, met Wael Ezzat, Director of Public Policy for the MENA region of the platform TikTok, in Rabat on Thursday, to explore potential avenues to combat misinformation.
Both officials discussed ways the Moroccan government and the TikTok platform could collaborate to fight “fake news,” defamation, violations of citizens’ privacy, as well as negative and illegal content posted on TikTok.
Bensaid and Ezzat also reiterated the importance of upholding freedom of expression and opinion as guaranteed by the Constitution and international treaties.
They also committed to pursuing coordination and cooperation to achieve their agreed-upon targets, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
