A young Frenchman, born in 2005, was arrested last Thursday in Morocco for a stabbing murder that occurred in May in a popular neighborhood of Bordeaux.
This information was confirmed on Tuesday by the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office, following reports from the newspaper Sud Ouest, according to Le Parisien.
The suspect was apprehended in Ifrane, located in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco, and was subject to an Interpol red notice. According to a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, the extradition process has begun and typically takes around six months to complete.
Authorities believe the murder may have stemmed from a violent altercation. The victim, an 18-year-old male known for minor criminal offenses, was fatally stabbed.
Witnesses suggested a potential fight occurred in the Aubiers neighborhood, a large residential area with 1,300 homes in northern Bordeaux, where police quickly intervened to quell disturbances following the incident.
The investigation into the murder is being conducted by the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS). During his time on the run, the suspect reportedly posted images on social media of hotels with swimming pools, indicating his attempts to maintain a carefree lifestyle while evading capture.
