Marrakech is hosting on Wednesday an international workshop as part of Interpol’s Stadia Program, which is dedicated to security measures for major sporting events.
The workshop brings together security officials and sports event organizers to discuss and enhance safety protocols for large-scale sporting events.
Titled “Safety and Security of Major Sporting Events,” the workshop focuses on preparing law enforcement agencies and event organizers for the complex security challenges presented by international sports competitions.
Representatives from FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other organizations are attending the workshop. The event equally features officials from various countries, including European, African, and Arab nations.
The workshop includes discussions and analysis of security standards, particularly concerning safety at major sporting events. Attendees are sharing experiences and expertise in organizing and securing events such as soccer tournaments, drawing from past experiences to enhance security operations.
Participants are also examining technology, international cooperation strategies, and best practices for maintaining security during high-profile sports competitions.
Discussions center on how to coordinate security efforts across multiple sectors, including law enforcement, event management, and international sports governing bodies.
Launched in 2012 by Interpol, the Stadia Program provides assistance to countries in planning and implementing security strategies for major sporting events.
The program supports preparations for global events like the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and other international competitions. This week’s workshop in Marrakech is a key part of these efforts, offering valuable training and support for upcoming events.
During the workshop, officials discussed the security preparations for events such as the 2025 African Cup of Nations and a potential joint bid by Morocco and Spain to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
