Saint Kitts and Nevis Minister of Foreign Affairs Denzil Douglas reaffirmed his country’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara on Monday.
Douglas made the remarks during a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in New York.
The two ministers signed a joint communiqué following their discussions at the 79th UN General Assembly.
The communiqué emphasized both nations’ commitment to strengthen and expand cooperation between Morocco and St. Kitts and Nevis.
They expressed their intention to develop a new generation cooperation roadmap for 2024-2026.
The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis reiterated its backing for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including the Moroccan Sahara.
Douglas praised Morocco’s 2007 autonomy initiative as the only credible solution to the regional dispute.
He acknowledged the United Nations’ efforts as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic resolution.
As a member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), St. Kitts and Nevis welcomed the opening of an OECS embassy in Rabat.
The new OECS embassy and the consulate in Dakhla provide significant opportunities to enhance bilateral exchanges.
