Belaid Bouimid, a leading figure in Moroccan sports journalism, died on Tuesday in Casablanca after a severe illness, his family told Morocco’s News Agency (MAP).
Bouimid was born in 1951 in El Jadida and was a pioneer in his area, significantly influencing the development of the industry in Morocco.
He began his journalistic career in 1975 upon returning from France, where he worked as a reporter and caricaturist for the French-language newspaper Al Bayane and the Arabic-language daily Bayane Al Yaoume.
Bouimid also served as a sports analyst for various television channels and radio stations, thereby contributing to the evolution of sports media.
He held multiple senior roles including Secretary-General of the Moroccan Association of Sports Press and President of the African Sports Press Union in 2005 and 2009, MAP reported.
