Ahmed Rachid Khattabi, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, announced the launch of the 9th Arab Media Excellence Awards on Monday in Cairo that recognize outstanding achievements in Arab journalism and media.
Adopting a new slogan, “Arab Youth and New Media,” Khattabi said, “reflects the Arab Council of Ministers of Information’s recognition of the importance of addressing youth-related concerns, particularly those linked to significant shifts in the media landscape.”
He noted that “the increasing influence of digital communication affects young people’s social behaviors, cultural practices, and intellectual perspectives.”
The Arab Media Excellence Awards include four principal categories: radio, television, printed media, and electronic media. Award subcategories include Best Report, Best Documentary Film, Best Television Program, and Best Investigative Piece.
The 2024 awards, entitled “Media of Crises, Disasters, and Risks,” addressed major incidents including Morocco’s September 2023 earthquake, flooding in Derna, Libya, and the humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s war on Gaza.
Representatives from Arab League member states attended the organizational meeting for the awards which are “designed to promote quality and excellence in media,” according to Khattabi.
Applications for the 2025 awards will accepted from October 1 to March 31, 2025, and the winning entries will be revealed at the next session of the Arab Council of Ministers of Information, scheduled for 2025.
