Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has made it to the list of the world’s highest-paid goalkeepers, according to a report by sports website Give Me Sport.
With a weekly salary in excess of USD 223,700 at Saudi club Al Hilal, Bounou now ranks eighth in the world.
The 33-year-old Atlas Lion recently signed with Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal after a successful stint with Spanish club Sevilla, where he cemented his status as one of the finest goalkeepers in La Liga.
Bounou earned international fame during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where his impressive performances for Morocco helped the country reach the semi-finals for the first time in history. He quickly became a fan favorite, nicknamed The Smiling Hero.
In addition to his World Cup achievements, Bounou made history in Spain’s La Liga. In September 2022, he won the coveted Zamora Trophy for the 2021-2022 season, becoming the first Moroccan and Arab player to earn the accolade, which recognizes the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio.
