Michel Barnier’s newly announced government includes Othman Nasrou, a Franco-Moroccan politician appointed as Secretary of State for Citizenship and the Fight Against Discrimination.
Born in 1987 in Casablanca, Nasrou has been a prominent figure in politics since his youth, following his education at HEC Paris and a brief career in the private sector. He is affiliated with the political party “Les Républicains” (LR) and has been actively involved in local politics since being elected to the municipal council in Trappes, a suburb of Paris, in 2014.
His initiative, “Trappes Citoyens,” became the leading opposition force in the city during municipal elections.
Nasrou’s political career continued in 2015 when he was elected regional councilor and later appointed vice president of the Île-de-France region, where he focused on tourism and international relations.
By 2020, he was serving as vice president responsible for European and International Affairs, a role that showcased his commitment to fostering connections beyond France’s borders.
In 2021, Nasrou took on additional responsibilities, overseeing youth programs, career guidance, and higher education as vice president of the Île-de-France region. He also served as the first deputy secretary general of Les Républicains, leading the party’s campaign for the presidency in 2022.
