Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska lauded the “exceptional and extraordinary” security cooperation between Spain and Morocco on Friday.
Speaking to reporters at the inauguration of a new canine training center for Spain’s national police in Valladolid, Grande-Marlaska noted the strategic importance of the collaboration in addressing shared challenges, particularly in the fight against organized crime.
“Cooperation with Morocco is exceptional and extraordinary, obviously based on trust and good faith,” he said. “It is a daily effort to serve the interests of the two respective societies and guarantee the rights and freedoms of all.”
The Spanish official explained that in today’s interconnected world, combating organized crime requires a united front, stressing the importance of “cooperation, loyalty, fidelity, and professionalism” in the relationship between the two neighboring countries’ security forces.
The strong collaboration between Spain and Morocco has been a key pillar in tackling cross-border crime, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and terrorism, according to Spanish government sources.
Both countries have continually reinforced their partnership through joint operations and information sharing, significantly enhancing the effectiveness of their respective law enforcement agencies.
Grande-Marlaska’s comments come as Spain continues to invest in bolstering its police capabilities, as demonstrated by the launch of the new canine center, aimed at enhancing law enforcement’s ability to detect drugs, explosives, and other contraband.
