The highly anticipated Tanjazz festival started on Thursday to the rhythm piano and gambri at the Palace of Art and Culture in Tangier.
Returning for its 22nd installment from September 19 to 22, the opening performance transported the audience to a unique fusion of jazz and Gnaoua (traditional folk music) landscape, bringing together the talents of musicians Omar Sosa and Majid Bekkas on stage.
Cuban pianist and composer, Sosa harmonized with Moroccan Gnaoua master Bekkas, concocting an intoxicating mix of Afro-Cuban music and traditional Gnaoua sounds, local media reported.
This year’s festival lineup is rich with talents from all over the world, taking giant steps to perform in Morocco’s northern musical hub, Tangier. The highlight of this year’s festival are the icons of la rumba flamenco the Gipsy Kings, who will perform alongside Nicolas Reyes at the Palace of Italian Institutions, known as Moulay Hafid Palace.
Tanjazz promises many surprises this year; audiences can expect drones to capture the unparalleled energy of the festival from a birds eye view.
Tanjazz 2024 is set to be a dynamic installment of the festival, combining music, festivities, and cultural exploration.
