The Moroccan Association of Sports Press (AMPS) signed a cooperation agreement on Wednesday in Tangier with its Spanish and Portuguese counterparts to enhance collaboration for the joint organization of the FIFA World Cup 2030.
The agreement is designed to establish a framework for cooperation among the three associations, highlighting their shared experience in football, culture, and human resources.
It also aims to unify the countries’ resources to support the major initiatives related to hosting the world’s biggest football event.
The joint venture of the three associations reflects a shared conviction about the pivotal role of the media in ensuring the success of major sports events.
Badreddine El Idrissi, President of the AMPS, stated that the accord represents a “crucial moment,” as the three associations join forces to establish a unified structure and ensure the delivery of “an exceptional World Cup,” Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
He noted the instrumental role of the media in the success of major sports events and in conveying their legacy.
El Idrissi also highlighted that the protocol strives to foster a cohesive alliance to advocate for sports journalists’ interests, establish a forum for knowledge exchange, support young journalists, and promote training.
“Tangier was the chosen venue for the signing ceremony given its symbolic significance as a cultural hub and a center for cross-border exchange,” he said.
Jesus Alvarez, Vice President of the Spanish Association of Sports Press stated that the protocol seeks to maximize each country’s media experience and create a framework to support sports journalists and harmonize media efforts for the 2030 World Cup.
Manuel Queiroz, President of the Portuguese Association of Sports Press, also commented that the agreement will facilitate journalists’ work in reporting on the event, including covering the match and tournament atmosphere, and activities showcasing each country’s culture.
“We hope to make the World Cup a medium to draw the three nations closer together. This tournament will be unique and remarkable because, although the host countries have different cultures, they all share a common humanity,” he concluded.
