Casablanca’s new “Casatramway” T3 and T4 lines will start operations on Monday to provide better transportation options in the city, the company managing the city’s public transit system, Casa Transports announced in a press release on Wednesday.
The launch follows a series of test operations and pre-operational phases that commenced in May this year in a bid to “guarantee optimal comfort and safety” of passengers, according to the statement.
The T3 and T4 lines stretch a total of 26.5 km and have 39 stations. With 20 stations, the T3 line runs over 14 km, connecting the Al Wahda and Salmia neighborhoods to Casa Port.
The new route will traverse several major avenues, including 10 Mars, Abdelkader Sahraoui, El Akid El Allam, Driss El Harti, Mohammed VI, Strasbourg, Mohamed Smiha, and Moulay Abderrahmane.
The T4 service includes 19 stations and extends 12.5 km, linking the Moulay Rachid Industrial Zone to the Parc de la Ligue Arabe.
The tramway will connect key locations in the city, including Oqba, Driss El Harti, El Akid El Allam, Forces Auxiliaires, Nil, Anoual, Ouled Ziane, Capitaine Puississeau, Baraton, Place Victoire, Rahal Meskini, Place Mers Sultan, Allal El Fassi, and Moulay Youssef.
The new lines expand Casablanca’s “Transport en Commun en Site Propre” (TCSP) Dedicated Transit Network to 98 km, tripling the length of the service from its initial 31 km, which commenced operation on December 12, 2012.
The network now encompasses 151 stations and 12 transit hubs, thereby improving transportation options for Casablanca residents.
The new routes will operate daily from 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM, with 24 trams scheduled to be in service, running about every 10 minutes. With the introduction of new 40 Alstom X05 trams, each with a capacity of 600 passengers, the frequency is expected to eventually increase to every 5 minutes, according to the statement.
