Dakhla is preparing to host two prestigious water sports events: the 14th edition of the Kitesurf World Cup and the 3rd Wingfoil World Cup. The competitions will run from September 29 to October 6, 2024, bringing together top athletes from around the world.
The Kitesurf World Cup, officially named the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Global Kitesports Associations (GKA) 2024, and the Wingfoil World Cup, organized under the Global Wingsports Association (GWA) banner, will see athletes from 17 countries competing for a prize pool of EUR 40,000.
Competitors from the United States, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Morocco, and more will battle it out in both the kitesurfing and wingfoil categories. Among the top kitesurfing contenders are prominent athletes like Airton Cozzolino, James Carew, and Sebastian Ribeiro, alongside Moroccan champions Ali Bekkali and Maji Mounim.
In the women’s category, standouts include Capucine Delannoy and Camille Losserand.
In the Wingfoil category, leading male athletes such as Malo Guenole, Cash Berzolla, and Hugo Marin will compete, while top female participants include Nia Suardiaz, Elena Moreno, and Bowien Van der Linden.
In addition to the world-class events, a national Moroccan championship will take place, where around 20 local competitors will compete for wildcards to participate in the global competition.
This year’s event will also feature the ocean conservation campaign “Protect What You Love, Save the Ocean.” The campaign will involve a village dedicated to environmental education, with workshops and interactive activities aimed at raising awareness about marine protection. Students and young people from the region will take part.
