The recent images and videos of half-naked individuals that went viral on social media are actually old, according to our sources.
Local sources from the M’diq-Fnideq prefecture revealed that these images date back to a few days ago when public forces thwarted an illegal migration attempt towards Sebta.
The sources clarified that the half-naked individuals were wearing swimsuits when they were rescued and apprehended by the public forces from the sea.
As for the other image showing people sitting near a concrete wall, the sources expressed doubt about its connection to the current events in Fnideq.
They also stated that they were not certain if the image was even related to incidents in Morocco.
Moroccan authorities stopped a massive attempt by migrants to break the border barrier with the Spanish enclave of Sebta on Sunday.
Earlier the same week, Moroccan officials increased their presence in Fnideq following recent social media campaign urging large-scale migration to the city on September 15.
Moroccan authorities revealed that in August alone, security personnel blocked 14,648 illegal migrants from attempting to breach Sebta and Melilla or swim along the coast, accounting for approximately one-third of all unsuccessful attempts this year.
