Calm returned to the Sebta’s enclave border crossing after failed mass infiltration attempts on Sunday, September 15.
The area saw chases, arrests, and injuries among illegal migrants who attempted to storm the city of Sebta.
From September 11 to 16, Moroccan security authorities intercepted 4,455 would-be migrants attempting to illegally cross from the northern Moroccan city of Fnideq into the Spanish enclave of Sebta.
Among those seized were 3,795 Moroccan adults, 141 Moroccan adolescents, and 519 foreign nationals, including 164 irregular migrants of Algerian origin.
Spanish media praised Morocco’s role in containing the situation, with Spain’s Migration Minister applauding the cooperation between both countries.
Sebta’s local government leader Juan José Imbroda commended the ability of Moroccan and Spanish authorities to effectively handle the situation.
“If Morocco has the will, it can do it, as it has done in recent days in Ceuta and Melilla,” said Imbroda on Spanish radio station Radio Canal Sur.
Spain’s Interior Ministry confirmed that joint security efforts prevented any successful infiltration attempts on Sunday.
