A would-be migrant died on Sunday after attempting to enter Ceuta by swimming through the Moroccan sea, in which he drowned, according to Ceuta TV, citing confirmed reports from Moroccan authorities to Spain’s News Agency (EFE).
The incident took place shortly after noon.
On Sunday, Moroccan security forces prevented an attempt by hundreds of irregular migrants, including Moroccans and nationals of other countries, to reach the enclave of Ceuta.
The would-be migrants responded to a collective migration attempt call on social media, scheduled for September 15. Many were minors, mostly Moroccans, who proceeded towards the Fnideq border post.
Law enforcement promptly intervened and repelled the groups in a series of operations throughout the day.
