Morocco participated in the Arab Voluntary Union (AVU) Congress, which opened on Sunday evening in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
The Moroccan delegation features Mohamed Asfour, Director of the Moroccan Volunteer and Citizenship Center, accompanied by researchers, academics, and association leaders.
Held under the banner, “The Role of Media in the Development of Volunteering,” the event fell on the same day as the annual Arab Volunteer Day celebrated on September 15, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
The Congress program features recognition of distinguished volunteers, the signing of international and Arab agreements to strengthen cooperation in the field of volunteering, and site visits to illustrate the scope of volunteering in Egypt.
The agenda also covers a symposium on the media’s role in promoting volunteer culture across Arab countries, a review of regional volunteering initiatives, and an analysis of particular aspects of fieldwork.
Yousef bin Ali Al-Kadim, President of the AVU, opened the congress by reiterating the importance of Arab Volunteer Day as a tribute to the media’s significant role in promoting voluntary work.
He also announced the launch of a new project, entitled “The Retired Volunteer,” designed to recognize retired pioneering volunteers for their significant contributions to community work across 12 specialties.
Established in Doha in 2003, the AVU is a nonprofit organization that brings together entities, organizations, associations, and centers focused on volunteer work. Its mission is to empower Arab youth in their volunteer efforts, promote innovative volunteering practices across Arab countries, and foster a collective consciousness to nurture a society grounded in a culture of volunteering.
