Former President Donald Trump was unharmed after multiple shots were fired near his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The shots came from outside the golf course’s fence, according to sources briefed on the incident. Trump’s campaign confirmed his safety following the gunfire but did not provide further details, Reuters reported.
The Associated Press reported that U.S. Secret Service agents fired upon seeing an individual with a firearm near Trump’s golf club. No injuries have been reported.
Trump addressed the situation, assuring his supporters, “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but I am safe and well. I will NEVER SURRENDER!”
He was golfing at Trump International Golf Course, located just five miles from his Mar-a-Lago residence. The Secret Service quickly moved him to safety.
The Secret Service is investigating the incident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. local time. This follows a recent assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania on July 13.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident and expressed relief that Trump is safe. Harris condemned the violence, stating, “Violence has no place in America.”
Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., reported that an AK-47 was found in bushes, and a suspect was apprehended. The Palm Beach police service plans a briefing at 4:30 p.m.
The recent shooting underscores concerns about candidate safety ahead of the upcoming November 5 election. The incident has reignited debate over security lapses, particularly following a previous assassination attempt on Trump in July.
