Morocco’s University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) has officially expanded its presence to North America with the launch of its new branch, UM6P Canada, in Montreal, according to a statement.
The opening ceremony, held on Friday, featured notable attendees including Souriya Otmani, Morocco’s Ambassador to Canada, and Quebec’s Minister of Higher Education, Pascale Dery.
In a statement, the university says that UM6P Canada will focus on four key areas including research and development, executive education, entrepreneurship, and capacity building.
The goal is to create a dynamic research environment that encourages knowledge transfer, technology exchange, and the development of expertise on both sides of the Atlantic, the statement explains.
“This is an important milestone in our effort to build bridges between Africa and North America,” said Hicham El Habti, President of UM6P. “Through partnerships with our Canadian counterparts, we are addressing global challenges like the energy transition and artificial intelligence. UM6P Canada embodies our commitment to a sustainable and innovative future.”
The Montreal branch will also serve as a hub for Moroccan and African professionals in Canada, facilitating networking opportunities and joint ventures.
UM6P has already established a global footprint, with campuses in Benguerir, Rabat, Laayoune, Paris, and now Montreal. The university focuses on addressing African and global challenges by promoting research that directly addresses industry needs and encourages entrepreneurship.
