Abdellatif Miraoui, Morocco’s Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, inaugurated several digitalization projects at Moulay Ismail University (UMI) on Friday in Meknes to advance the institution’s technological infrastructure.
During his visit, Miraoui inaugurated the “Code 212” centers at the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences and the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Social Sciences.
The centers are designed to facilitate interdisciplinary learning, offering a hybrid approach to programming and coding, thereby developing skills in a range of areas, including coding, big data, robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Miraoui also launched the “Tamayouz centers”- Centers of Academic Excellence- within the two faculties. The hubs are designed to modernize and diversify academic offerings in open-access institutions.
The official commended the streamlined enrollment process for new students, crediting the success to the efforts of deans, administrative staff, and students, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
“The Ministry has digitized the enrollment process this year, providing new students with login information and access to all available platforms,” he said.
He highlighted that this year’s digitalization strategy incorporated the expansion of Power Skills training for regular access institutions, building upon the initiatives introduced last year for open-access institutions.
Miraoui also discussed the advantages of the “MyMoroccanUniv” app, a valuable tool to enhance communication between universities and students.
The application, available on Android and soon on iOS, offers a variety of services, including access to support courses, language training, university orientation services, and certificate management.
Joined by UMI President Ahmed Mouchtachi, the minister reviewed best practices for a seamless registration process for newcomers. The discussions also centered around the use of technology for distance learning and the development of skills.
