Miguel Chegne has requested the repatriation of his father, Manuel Alejandro Chegne Tiburcio, who died in the recent Moroccan floods.
Chegne, 56, drowned after a landslide swept the truck he was traveling in near Errachidia, central Morocco, according to the Peruvian outlet Rotafono.
Miguel has asked the Foreign Ministry to expedite the repatriation process so his father can be given a Christian burial in Cajamarca, Peru.
Manuel Chegne was in Morocco for a temporary job with FTE Drilling and was planning to travel to Canada before returning to Peru.
The Peruvian was among 18 victims of severe floods that recently struck several provinces in central Morocco.
He was traveling with another Peruvian, who survived the incident.
Peruvian diplomatic sources confirmed that Lima was informed of Chegne’s death this morning.
Other flood victims include a Spanish citizen in Tinghir and a Canadian in Errachidia, according to the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior.
The floods caused significant damage, with 56 homes affected, 27 of which collapsed completely.
Moroccan Interior Ministry spokesman Rachid El Khalfi reported that the recent rainfall was equivalent to half the annual average for some regions, with Tata recording 250 millimeters per hour.
