The Ministry of Health and Social Protection on Thursday confirmed the first case of Monkeypox (MPX) in Marrakech, Morocco.
The case was identified by health authorities through the National Epidemiological Surveillance System, according to the protocol established in response to the global health alert.
The ministry reported that the patient, receiving care at a specialized medical center in Marrakech, is currently in a stable condition with no severe symptoms.
“Medical professionals are closely monitoring the patient’s health, and health isolation measures have been implemented following national and international standards”, the ministry stated.
Following the verification of laboratory results, national and regional public health emergency centers have initiated investigations to track and monitor those who had contact with the patient. Thus far, none of the known contacts have exhibited symptoms of contamination.
The ministry is committed to keeping the public informed about the situation and urges citizens to follow recommended precautions, such as regular handwashing and avoiding contact with infected or suspected individuals.
