Moroccan Ambassador to Ireland, Lahcen Mahraoui, held a meeting with Wexford County Council officials on Tuesday.
During his visit, Mahraoui also engaged with members of the Moroccan diaspora in Wexford.
The Moroccan embassy in Ireland reported that the meeting addressed potential cooperation and strategic projects between Wexford and a similar Moroccan region.
Discussions explored various areas of exchange, including commerce, education, culture, and art.
The long-standing cordial relationship between Morocco and Ireland began in the 1970s.
The Moroccan community in Ireland, numbering around 2,000, plays a key role in these relations.
Many Moroccans work for Irish firms and multinational corporations, while Moroccan students and researchers benefit from multiple Memorandums of Understanding signed since 2017.
Irish exports to Morocco increased by 21% in the first half of 2023, totaling 69 million euros.
Ireland’s imports from Morocco in 2023 were approximately USD 92.98 million, according to UN COMTRADE data.
