Morocco’s Government Council adopted Decree Law No. 2.24.729, amending Law No. 17-04 of the Drug and Pharmacy Code, on Thursday, according to Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate and Government spokesperson, in a press briefing held in Rabat.
Presented by Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, the draft decree defines the conditions and procedures for issuing official certificates for vaccine or serum batches destined for the national market.
The COVID-19 pandemic revealed an urgent need for reliable and resilient supply chains for pharmaceuticals, particularly vaccines. The new decree law seeks to strengthen Morocco’s vaccine sovereignty through the establishment of a national industry equipped to meet both domestic and continental demands.
The proposed national system targets the establishment of a review process for production records and quality control test results to evaluate each batch of vaccine or serum intended for human use, in line with market authorization requirements, according to Baitas.
