Michael February has released the final installment of his Moroccan surf series titled MOROCCO (SIDE 3), directed by Ian Thurtell.
This video marks the end of a three-part series that highlights February’s surf skills along Morocco’s iconic coasts.
The director, Ian Thurtell, is a well-known surf photographer from Cape Town, South Africa, who has built his reputation over the past decade.
Thurtell is recognized for his creative approach to surf photography, including building his own underwater housings for his cameras.
In a 2020 interview, Thurtell explained that he started building his housings because he couldn’t afford the commercial ones, leading him to innovate.
He shared that his first fiberglass housing was nearly a centimeter thick, and he continues to use homemade housings with the same formula today.
MOROCCO (SIDE A) the first part of the series, was released two weeks ago, with SIDE 2 following last Tuesday.
All three videos were produced by February’s company, Spearhead Unlimited, and directed by Thurtell, bringing an artistic lens to Morocco’s surf scene.
The series showcases Morocco’s stunning surf spots, with viewers speculating that parts were filmed in Safi, known for its legendary waves and pottery heritage.
Safi and Taghazout, near Agadir, are considered top surfing destinations, attracting renowned surfers like Nic Von Rupp, who raved about Morocco’s waves last year.
Von Rupp described his experience in Taghazout as “legendary” and expressed excitement to return, stating, “Good to be back here, it’s been so long.”
February’s edit follows in this tradition, showcasing Morocco’s surf spots, including the coastline from Safi to Dakhla, which offers some of the world’s best waves.
Morocco’s western coastlines are ideal for surfers, with waves peaking from October to April, making it a hotspot for both beginners and seasoned surfers.
With the release of MOROCCO (SIDE 3), February’s series brings Morocco’s surf culture to a global audience, capturing the beauty and excitement of its waves.
