Moroccan security forces arrested on Thursday a 19-year-old man suspected of harboring extremist ideologies and planning terrorist activities, according to a statement.
The suspect, identified only as a resident of Ksar Amalou in the Midelt province, was taken into custody by the National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) in a coordinated operation with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The young man is accused of plotting attacks that could have caused significant harm to both public safety and the country’s stability.
The suspect’s alleged intentions to carry out terrorist acts are fueled by extremist ideology, the statement explains. The arrest is part of a broader strategy to thwart any potential threats before they materialize.
The suspect is currently being held in custody while the BNPJ, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office specializing in terrorism cases, conducts a thorough investigation.
Authorities are working to uncover the full extent of his extremist activities and to determine whether he has any connections to established terrorist organizations.
