All flights at Charleroi Airport have been canceled due to a 24-hour strike by union workers, causing significant disruption, “aviation 24” said.
Despite previous warnings about potential issues, the situation escalated after unions blocked the tarmac.
Yesterday, the airport had advised passengers to travel with hand luggage only, but the strike has now brought all operations to a standstill.
Nathalie Pierard, Spokesperson for Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA), explained that the strong union mobilization has compromised safety.
“We regret that passengers are being held hostage by these spontaneous actions,” she stated. Travelers are advised to avoid the airport and contact their airlines directly.
The strike stems from labor disputes over working conditions exacerbated by high absenteeism and complaints about “aggressive management” practices.
