Morocco’s match against Lesotho was a valuable lesson for the young players and allowed the team to experiment with new tactical setups, the national coach, Walid Regragui, said on Monday.
“The match was important for gaining better insight into the bench’s capabilities to build certainties for upcoming challenges,” Regragui said at a post-match press conference.
Morocco won against Lesotho on Monday as part of the second matchday of Group B of the Morocco 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
“In the first half, I expected more intensity, but we were a bit slow to capitalize,” he noted.
“This kind of match is positive because it allowed us to discover Adam Aznou, who was a great satisfaction. I believe we have found a future great player,” he added.
For the coach, the match allowed “the players to pursue the victory without losing motivation.”
Morocco, already qualified as the host country, is placed in Group B alongside Gabon, Central African Republic, and Lesotho.
The final phase of the 2025 AFCON will take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
