Urban traffic accidents from September 2-8 killed 35 people and wounded 2,591, of whom 117 were seriously injured, according to the latest bulletin from Morocco’s National Police (DGSN).
The main causes of the crashes, according to DGSN, are distracted driving, failure to give priority, speeding, failure to keep a safe distance and stop, failure to maintain control, pedestrians’ inattention, improper lane change, unauthorized turn, traffic signal violation, wrong-way driving, driving against traffic, driving under the influence (DUI), and unsafe overtaking.
As for traffic violations, the security services issued 47,546 tickets, reported 7,168 incidents to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and collected 34,080 transactional fines, amounting to nearly 8.5 million MAD.
The operations also resulted in the impoundment of 5,208 vehicles, the seizure of 495 documents, and the withdrawal of 8,013 vehicles from circulation, DGSN concluded.
