Border police and customs officers at Bab Sebta border crossing in northeastern Morocco seized over 2.7 million MAD in unreported foreign currency, which included euros and Chinese yuan, on Monday morning when they inspected a vehicle at the entry point, according to media reports.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., customs officials and police discovered a significant sum of cash, amounting to 2.744,321.5 MAD, in a vehicle bearing Spanish license plates and driven by a Senegalese national.
A search revealed 54,040 euros and 1,800 yuan in cash were concealed in the driver’s luggage. A further 200,000 euros were discovered in hidden spots within the car, notably on the driver’s dashboard and within a secret locker near the gear shift.
The customs officials confiscated both the currency and the vehicle.
The police arrested the suspect and handed him over to the judicial police in M’diq for further investigation, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
