Imane Berchane Co-Founder of private education technology “Robots & More” and “LOOP,” has joined the seventh cohort of Obama Scholars, becoming the first-ever Moroccan to be selected alongside 30 emerging global leaders in the program.
Berchane, a tech social entrepreneur, aims to use her education technology to equip underprivileged students with future-proof skills by providing access to Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) education.
The immersive program will take place at Columbia University in New York City and the University of Chicago during the 2024-2025 academic year.
“She has partnered with Morocco’s Ministry of Education and international sponsors to introduce STEM programs to over 180 schools, train 500 teachers, and increase girls’ participation in STEM to over 50%,” the program’s announcement states.
Despite reaching over 21,000 participants, Berchane’s program remains in high demand. She plans to reformulate new visions and strategies, develop innovative funding models, and form partnerships to expand her reach within existing communities and across Africa, focusing on the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast.
Berchane wrote on LinkedIn: “As the first Moroccan person to be selected for the program, I hope to pave the way for many more and inspire future generations to dare make a change.”
The Obama Foundation Scholars program helps emerging global leaders, already making positive changes in their communities, to elevate their impact and further develop their work.
Launched in 2018, the program aligns with the foundation’s vision of nurturing the next generation of leaders, like Berchane, to maximize their influence when they return to their communities.
The cohort of Scholars will participate in weekly seminars and workshops, honing their personal and professional skills throughout the academic year.
