The Morocco U20 women’s football team failed to advance to the second round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after a 2-0 loss to Spain in their final group match on Saturday at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali, Colombia.
Spain took control of the game from the opening whistle, applying consistent pressure with an offensive strategy.
The Spanish team secured an early lead, with a goal in the fifth minute through Nahia Aparicio. Lucia Moral sealed the victory with a late goal in the 89th minute despite Morocco’s defensive efforts.
Morocco’s goalkeeper, Fatima El Jebraoui, performed exceptionally, saving a penalty from Erika Gonzalez in the 65th minute.
Morocco’s defeat in their final group match, following earlier losses against Paraguay (2-0) and the United States (2-0), marks the conclusion of their inaugural participation in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
Spain and the United States advanced to the Round of 16 in Group C, while Paraguay was eliminated after a 7-0 loss to the U.S. in their final group match.
In other related group matches, Colombia and Mexico qualified for the knockout stage from Group A.
Group B also saw Brazil and France qualify, while Germany and Nigeria gained entry from Group D.
The remaining qualifiers for the Round of 16 are to be determined by the final matches in Groups E and F, which will take place on Sunday.
