A Moroccan refugee living in Apolda, Germany, was deported to Morocco on Thursday after committing multiple criminal acts, German media reported.
A spokesperson for Germany’s Interior Ministry confirmed that the individual was transferred from Frankfurt to Casablanca after being held in a detention center for foreigners in Rhineland-Palatinate just days earlier.
The man arrived in Germany in 2014. According to the Interior Ministry, he was supposed to leave the country as early as 2017.
His identity was verified in collaboration with Morocco, which facilitated the issuance of the necessary documents for his return.
Authorities in the Weimar district and the city of Apolda had previously sent an open letter to state officials, seeking assistance after the asylum seeker’s repeated criminal behavior posed a significant security threat.
Reports from the Weimar Land district office indicated that his offenses included drug-related crimes, handling stolen goods, as well as insults and physical assaults.
The ministry confirmed that he had spent several years in prison and, after his recent release earlier this year, reoffended.
