Abdellatif Bardach, the head of Morocco’s National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE), and Cani Fernández Vicién, the Chairperson of the Spanish National Commission on Markets and Competition, signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to enhance bilateral cooperation with respect to energy.
The initiative paves the way for exploring new opportunities and horizons for energy collaboration between the two countries.
During the signing ceremony, Bardach noted that the agreement is the result of in-depth discussions and a “steadfast commitment to sustainability and innovation in energy regulation.” It highlights the importance of critical technical aspects of providing reliable, affordable energy, such as reasonable tariffs, while at the same time “adopting transparency and fairness practices essential for ensuring an open and equitable energy market,” he said.
Collaboration “not only celebrates the two countries’ achievements but also stems from a long-term strategic vision to expand the existing energy exchanges and links between the two nations, reflecting a deep commitment to regional integration and energy security,” he added.
This approach opens promising prospects for future strong and expanded cooperation, underscoring the shared commitment of both countries to address global energy challenges.
Both officials reiterated their commitment to working closely to make the partnership a “model for international cooperation,” reflecting the alignment of their strategic visions and extending its impact throughout the Mediterranean region and Africa.
The two parties said that they are “proud to jointly chair the specialized green hydrogen working group within the Mediterranean Energy Regulators Association,” a pivotal role in promoting green hydrogen as a key element in the energy transition.
The partnership underscores the strategic position of both Morocco and Spain as major players in advancing renewable technology and fostering a sustainable energy future for the region.
