Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment and Water has urged road users to exercise caution and vigilance in anticipation of severe thunderstorms, hail, and strong wind gusts expected to begin this Friday in certain provinces in the Kingdom.
“All road and highway users have to be cautious and alert due to the reduced visibility, or even complete absence of visibility, under these weather conditions,” the ministry said in a press release.
This advisory follows a weather alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), which predicts severe thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds from Friday to Sunday, which coincides with the return period for school and summer vacations.
DGM forecasts that the severe thunderstorms could affect the provinces of Zagora, Tinghir, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, Tata, Assa-Zag, Taroudant, Midelt, Es-Semara, Figuig, Azilal, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Tiznit, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, and Al Haouz.
For more information, the ministry advises road users to contact the General Directorate of Roads’ emergency center via 05 37 71 17 17.
