The President of Morocco’s Lower House, Rachid Talbi Alami, met with Aboe Bakar Al-Habsyi, the President of the Indonesia-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, on Wednesday in Rabat to discuss potential avenues for enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting, held during Al-Habsyi’s working visit to Morocco with a delegation of Indonesian members of parliament, reaffirmed the strong historical ties between Morocco and Indonesia.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations between the countries’ parliaments, increasing mutual visits, and strengthening bilateral and multilateral coordination on issues of common legislative interest, according to a press release by Morocco’s Lower House.
Al-Habsyi highlighted that the strategic cooperation agreement signed in 2023 between the two countries reflects their commitment to expanding and diversifying bilateral cooperation.
“Morocco has established itself as a strategic partner for Indonesia,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the profound solidarity between Morocco and Indonesia in supporting the Palestinian cause and commended Morocco’s exemplary leadership under King Mohammed VI, the President of the Al-Quds Committee.
Talbi Alami also commended the high caliber of legislative relations between the two countries and recognized the Indonesian Parliament for backing Morocco’s application of “observer status” within the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
At the meeting, Talbi Alami addressed King Mohammed VI’s Atlantic Initiative designed to facilitate greater access for landlocked Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.
“Morocco is a key investment hub and a gateway to the African market given the diversity of its partnerships and its economic openness,” he said.
The Chairman of the Moroccan-Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Group, Abdellatif El-Fouikar, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Morocco, Harsul Azwar, also attended the meeting.
